Known chemically as 3,5-dimethoxy-4-propyloxyphenethylamine, proscaline is a kind of phenethylamine in which an ethyl chain connects a phenyl ring to a -NH2 amino group. A further propyloxy group at carbon R4 in the phenyl ring and CH3O-, a functional group drawn to carbon atoms R3 and R5, make up proscaline. Being the 4-propyloxy analog of mescaline, proscaline has one extra carbon atom on its alkyloxy group than escaline, another comparable chemical that is related to the mescaline analog.
